WHAT THE HELL'S GOING ON

What the hell's going on
In this rotten relationship
I can't get in touch
When I want to touch

Or when I want to kiss
Or when I want to kill
Or when I want to just
Lie down in your arms

And rust

DON'T BE ASHAMED SISTER

Don't be ashamed sister
I'm only dancing
I know I'm out of step
Don't be ashamed

Must you turn your eyes away from me
The sight you see is real
I've been treading on the edge of life
With ambiguity

The dance is set
The tune is played
I can't keep up
I can't let go
I can't turn round
I can't stand still
I was caught in the real
Long long ago

Don't be alarmed sister
I'm only singing
And no one on first hearing is likely
To understand this song

Must you turn your eyes away from me
The sight you see is real
I've been treading on the edge of life
With ambiguity

The dance is set
The tune is played
I can't keep up
I can't let go
I can't turn round
I can't stand still
I was caught in the real
Long long ago

Don't be ashamed sister
I'm only dancing
I know I'm out of step
Don't be ashamed

COUNT YOUR LUCKY

The layout of this page will be improved soon
In the meantime to save those who wear spectacles from setting out on their regular hunt to find where they last had them - I have made the text very large

Count your lucky
Be as plucky
As your brain will
Let you be

Keep on trucking
Don't keep ducking
What you know
You'll always be

You'll always be
What you became
About the time
You got your name

About the time
You realised
What wasn't you
Would mesmerise

And so it has
From then till now
Not made much sense
But anyhow

You've got this far
It could be worse
You've still got money
In your purse
So don't complain
Enjoy the rain
Stay on your feet
Accept some pain

But try to keep it
To yourself
What you can't keep
Put on the shelf

And leave it there
Until you can
Go sing a song
Or hire a van

Accept that you will
Never be
More than you were
About age three

Praise the roof above your head
Praise the floor beneath your feet
Praise the food upon your plate
Beware a tendency to hate

Or think you're more
Than you can be
Or that you were
About age three

These words have now been recorded as a spoken word track and the plan is to add others using Bandcamp to make a complete album

DUMPED AND DUMPED

The place I have arrived at
Wasn’t really of my choosing
I can’t be sure where it is
The signs are quite confusing

There are mountains up ahead
With desert left and right
But with no sight of a place
To take refuge for a while

The car I was in
Was being driven by a stranger
Too engrossed in the ride
I didn’t recognise the danger

He professed to be kind
But kind was also blind
To the beauty we might find
If we’d gone a few more miles

There’s not much you can do
In such a situation
There’s much to be learned
If you survive Humiliation
Has a tendency to stop you
From reaching out again
But not reaching out’s
No remedy
For this sort of pain

Dumped and dumped
By the side of the road
The car sped off
Chucking dust up my nose
Eyes can’t see
Heart can’t breathe
Should have kept my hands
On the goddam wheel

COMING OUT CLEAN

This song was has also had the title DON'T YOU TELL ME

Don't you tell me
What coming out can mean
Until you know how
To be mean

You say you mean what you say
But everything you say
Has a way of
Coming out clean

I see you're wearing a tie
Under a well cut collar
You've cut your hair
To the bone

I see you're looking at me
With an eyebrow raised
Asking why I prefer
To stay home

So you've dabbled on the edge
On a Saturday night
You're about to
Get in deep

Well when you do you'll discover
This time that it won't be
So easy
To come out sweet

Did you see Martina
In the space at the end
Of the tunnel
With a tear in her eye

Did you see Martina
In the space at the end
Of the tunnel
With a tear in her eye

Don't you tell me
What coming out can mean
Until you know how
To be mean

Repeat

A SKIMPY DRESS

All I was seeking
Was a skimpy dress
To cover up the bits
Unlikely to impress
But which allowed the legs
And the arms to go free
To be what arms and legs
Are supposed to be

On the move
Not hampered
By fear or cant
Or appearing
A disgrace
Like a body
Or a face

On the move
Less likely
To be held down
Lively even wild
And flailing around

Same with the song
I didn't want to cramp the limbs
But the bits in the middle
Were in need of some bling

Were in need of something other
To disguise the scrawny bits
That can make an ok song
Less pleasing to pitch

The same with the song
I wasn't looking for a robe
More of a covering
To keep it on the road

To where it might get sung
Even lighten the load
Of some who have no option
But to sing alone
